Perhaps you are building your dream home. Perhaps your roof was damaged by a storm. Maybe this is your first home; maybe it’s your fifth. Either way, putting a new roof on is a big undertaking. You need to know where to start, and finding a professional roofing contractor does require some work on your behalf. However, at HP Roofing, you will find reliable roofing professionals with decades of experience and a long list of satisfied customers. We are Roofers, not a jack of all trades.
These are many decisions you will want to consider in the process of replacing your roof:
At HP Roofing, we use products only from certified roofing manufacturers, such as CertainTeed, Duro-Last, and Dexmet Standing Seam Metal roofing, available in a variety of colors and styles. We’d be glad to show you our wide selection of roofing samples.
Ask what is offered in terms of warranties for your new roof. Typically, there are two kinds of warranties—one from the manufacturer for their product, and one from the contractor for their workmanship. Be sure you clearly understand the difference and what you will get for your warranties. HP Roofing provides written warranties at the end of all major roofing jobs. See our warranty (PDF).
If you have any questions regarding the warranties that would apply to your job, please feel free to ask. You can search on Google or Facebook and maybe find a roofer that meets your needs at a low price. However, good questions to ask would be:
HP Roofing is a locally owned and operated business, with its offices located at 240 South Main Street in White River Junction, Vermont. Our beginnings date back to 1982. We are members of the Better Business Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce, and several other professional organizations. Read more about us here.
Be sure to ask for references from any potential contractor. This is a good way to establish their credibility. Asking for references regarding the quality of the work, and most importantly, the quality of the overall experience—from start to cleanup—is crucial. Make sure that the references you receive are from recent jobs, and you can verify them with a phone call or text. If possible, ask to visit a job in progress. HP Roofing is happy to provide references upon request.
Given the potential scope of a roofing project, it is best to get as much information as possible from each contractor you interview. For a small project, such as a leaky skylight, you will most likely receive a one-time cost estimate for repairs. For a major repair or replacement job, you should receive a written proposal that outlines several different roofing options. HP Roofing provides both estimates and proposals in writing so you can clearly see the economical and long-lasting roofing solutions to meet your needs. Request a quote.
Some states require licenses for contractors. While the states of Vermont and New Hampshire do not require licenses, HP Roofing is fully licensed, and copies are available upon request. Additionally, Jeff and his team leaders take continuing education courses from product manufacturers to maintain their knowledge of the latest roofing materials and technologies. Weighing all of these factors, in addition to price, when selecting a contractor, will help to ensure that you receive maximum value for your home improvement dollars.
Be sure to ask the contractor if they carry both worker’s compensation and general liability insurance. Also, ask to see a copy of their certificate of insurance from their insurance carrier, and ensure both liability and worker’s compensation insurance are listed.
Here’s the reason: If you, as the homeowner, hire a contractor that does not carry worker’s compensation insurance, you could be held responsible for any injuries sustained by them or anyone who comes on your property. At HP Roofing, we carry both general liability and worker’s compensation insurance for all employees. A certificate of insurance is available upon request.
